PhD student Alex Asay has been awarded a Fall 2024 scholarship from The UGA Foundation through the Student Veterans Resource Center and was awarded The Air and Space Commendation Medal by the Air Force for his actions abroad. The Department of Philosophy recently welcomed Staff Sergeant Asay back as he rejoined his cohorts following a six month deployment overseas

In addition to his military service and PhD studies, Alex is co-authoring a book with Dr. Fransico Javier López Frías, Associate Professor of Kinesiology, Philosophy, and Bioethics at Penn State on the philosophy of games/sport, utopia, and the good life.

"I want to thank the Philosophy Department for the support I received while away," says Alex. "Administrative staff Nancy Hines and Sonya Tino were extremely helpful in getting me reintegrated into the UGA system upon my return." The department is extremely grateful to Alex for his service.
