Frank Harrison III Scholarship

The Frank Harrison III Scholarship has been established to provide scholarships to Junior or Senior level undergraduate students majoring in Philosophy who have an interest in Philosophy of Religion, Ancient Philosophy, or Medieval Philosophy. As stipulated by the benefactor, these areas will be taken ‘as defined in the Western tradition as classically understood’. The scholarship award will be in the amount of $1500–$3000, depending on the availability of the funds and the number of scholarships awarded.

Criteria For Selection
  • Excellence in overall grades as well as grades in the major.
  • A demonstrated strong interest in the Philosophy of Religion, Ancient Philosophy, or Medieval Philosophy as indicated by courses taken with content immediately related to central questions of these areas of philosophy.
  • A submitted paper dealing with some subject directly related to a topic in the Philosophy of Religion, Ancient Philosophy, or Medieval Philosophy.
  • Selection of recipients shall not be based on financial need.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in Spring 2024.
Application Process

Applicants should submit the following information via email to yuri@uga.edu by 5:00 pm, Monday, March 25, 2024:

  • A letter of application (one page), stating the applicant's interest in the Philosophy of Religion, Ancient Philosophy, or Medieval Philosophy, and describing coursework related to at least one of these areas. Please also include your US mail and email addresses and the UGA ID number in the letter of application.
  • A paper dealing with a topic directly related to the Philosophy of Religion, Ancient Philosophy, or Medieval Philosophy.
  • A complete transcript (which may be unofficial) or Degree Audit Report.
Selection Process

Scholarship recipients shall be selected by the Philosophy Department Awards Committee. The donor representative shall be invited to participate on the committee as a non-voting member.
