The “Aesthetics in the Expanded Field” pre-seed grant team hosts an interdisciplinary aesthetics workshop at the Athenaeum on Friday, May 6. The schedule includes:

9-10am breakfast and coffee

10-10:50am: Rebecca Wallbank (Uppsala) "The relationship between aesthetic value and social cohesion"

11-11:50am: Hannah Rakoski and Rissa Willis (UGA) "Cringe Not Cringing: Internet Culture and Shame"

12-12:50pm: Vid Simoniti (Liverpool) "The challenge of climate change art" [via Zoom]

12:50-2:10pm: lunch

2:10-3pm: Rene Jagnow (UGA) “How do we experience atmosphere in paintings: Vilhelm Hammershøi’s interiors”

3:10-4pm: Jem Paige (Uppsala) "The Normativity of Aesthetic Appreciation”

4:10-5pm: Isabelle Wallace (UGA) "The Window-Washer and the DJ: Reflections on Art. Architecture and Manglano-Ovalle’s The Kiss"

The event is open to everyone, those planning to attend all or some of it are asked to RSVP to Aaron.meskin@uga.edu
