Three UGA Philosophy graduate students have recently successfully defended their dissertations and secured teaching positions and several other former students continue to move forward in successful academic careers. Josué Piñeiro Is beginning a full-time lecturer position at Kennesaw State University in the wake of his successful defense of Knowing and Being Known: Failures, Injustices, and Reparations (major professor Chris Cuomo). Michael Starling recently successfully defended The Civic and Political Function of Plato’s Philosophical Praxis (major professor Rohan Sikri) and has accepted a tenure-track Associate Professor position at San Joaquin Delta College. Nucharee Wongsamut is a tenure track lecturer at Thammasat University in Thailand after the successful defense of Some Ethical Questions Regarding Genome Editing (major professor Melissa Seymour Fahmy). Other former UGA Philosophy graduate students have earned additional placements: 2022 graduate Claire Mills begins a tenure-track position at Cottey College this Fall, 2021 graduate Laura Matthews will be a Teaching Assistant Professor in the History and Philosophy of Science Department at the University of Pittsburgh, 2020 graduate Chris Byron took up a tenure-track position at Snead State Community College in Alabama in 2021, and 2017 graduate Tony Chackal moved on to a tenure-track position at Augusta University last year.
